It’s not a Brit thing, or at least it didn’t start as one, and so far I’ve not had a brunch in London to match it’s Gulf/American counterpart.

Long resigned to never again experience the weight of a hundred little desserts sitting peaceably in ones stomach from an unlimited buffet, my eyes have just recently been opened by the New York Italian Style Saturday Brunch served at The Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill.

Brunch is served in The Montagu restaurant on the ground floor of The Hyatt Regency London, in what is a gorgeously high-ceilinged space adorned with art deco flourishes and luxe chandeliers.

It’s an idyllic setting for a brunch of pure indulgence.

The New York inspiration for brunch is flecked throughout all of the offerings, from the deli counter of cured meats, rich cheeses, walnut breads and charcoal kissed antipasti through to the dessert counter of perfectly formed tiramisu, New York Cheesecake with summer berry coulis, pecan pie, chocolate slices with gold leaf and freshly made waffles and pancakes!

Located in Portman Square, a block behind the hustle and bustle of Oxford Street and minutes from Marylebone, one of my favourite London neighbourhoods, the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill hotel is a hotel I actually know very well – as I used to stay there a lot when my corporate life brought me to Portman Square (where my company HQ was located).

Here is how my stay at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill hotel went.

The outside area is always quite busy with a fair bit of foot traffic, but every time I entered or left the hotel I was always greeted and the side door opened for me.

As I walked inside the hotel, someone by the door asked if I was checking in and quickly directed me to the right hand side, where the reception and concierge areas were located.

It had a separate shower and bath, a vanity area for ‘hair styling’ and a single sink (I would have preferred a his and hers sink, and would have expected it in a suite).

One of only 34 Roux Scholars in the UK, he sees dishes as his natural expression of a warm welcome.

These are all values clearly reflected in his signature classic style, a sophisticated blend of richly comforting dishes with elegant touches of innovation.

His intuitive imagination for seasonal dishes is inspired and driven by a superb natural larder right on his doorstep.

All showcased ultimately on the plate with spectacular produce straight from the restaurant’s organic kitchen garden, from across The New Forest and from the neighbouring coastal counties of Hampshire and Dorset.

The very best seasonal, regional produce sourced with passion, crafted with care and served exquisitely.

A small country house hotel in the charming village Beaulieu the Montagu Arms is a just a short cycle ride or drive from Brockenhurst, an ideal jumping off point for a tour of the New Forest.

The hotel’s Terrace restaurant has retained its Michelin star since 2009 and, under chef Matthew Tomkinson, the kitchen focuses on seasonal dishes that are prettily presented and cooked with precision.

In a dining room that whispers classic French style (the butter is served on marble slabs and the wine list comes with a contents list), we started with fragrant spiced scallops.

We asked the sommelier to pair wines to our mains, and found a Riesling and Pinot Noir ideal matches for our turbot and lamb dishes.

A breakfast menu included thick cut, smoked bacon and sausage from Ponhead farm, eggs from the hotel’s own hens, crumbly, freshly baked pastries and delicately flaky smoked haddock – the perfect start to a day of cycling or walking.
